White Wizard Toys Opening Day

Snow. And More Snow.
Chicago in the winter. A couple of days before opening, we had temperatures in the 60’s, kids were running around without coats, and winter seemed to be distant. Then, a massive stormfront dumped first rain, then ice, then 14" inches of the white stuff all over Chi-town.
An Imperial Stormtrooper peers into the storefront
Despite this, everyone pulled together to make the store shipshape-in-Bristol fashion before opening day (even the dog was tired out from supervising the stockroom!).
Saturday dawned cold…and sunny! Thanks to round-the-clock snowplow activity, the roads were clear, and the opening proceeded as planned.
Shortly after the doors opened, we had a visit from the Imperium. Not only did we have Stormtroopers from the 501st, but Lord Vader himself made an appearance. We also had a Boba Fett (who seemed taller in movies, somehow), and even Princess Leia (looking somewhat canine).
These costumes were beautifully crafted from hand-laid fiberglass and other materials, with working electronics and superb fit and finish representing many hours of careful work. Outstanding!
Given the weather, foot traffic was pretty decent (yer honorable web thrall didn’t make it until shortly before closing, and there was still a nice cluster of shoppers!). The owner has assembled a terrific selection of items ranging from beautiful replicas of props from movies like King Kong, armor from The Lord of the Rings and models from Star Trek and Star Wars to precision Gundam models and anime figures, Simpsons toys, and more.
We wish to thank all of our friends and family who’ve made this possible, and we also extend our gratitude to the members of the Midwest Garrison for their help with opening day festivities! We couldn’t have done it without all of your help!
